Information: Gideon Lewensohn, a fifth generation Jerusalemite was born in 1954. Lewensohn studied composition and bass at the Rubin Academy in Tel-Aviv where he graduated in 1988 with an Artist Diploma Cum Laude. He later continued for his Doctoral studies in conducting at the Peabody conservatory in Baltimore USA. Upon his return to Israel in 1995 he began to teach at the music department at Bar Ilan University where he founded the graduate program for composition. In addition to his University teaching he is active as composer, Bass player and conductor. In terms of style he is not commited to any particular school though he feels that his contact with the hungarian composer Gyorgy Kurtag had a profound impact on his music.
