Information: Composer and choir conductor Kurt Bikkembergs was born in Hasselt in 1963. He studied at Lemmens Institute in Louvain, where he graduated with degrees in musical education, composition, choral and orchestral conducting. Moreover, he took master classes in Belgium and in Austria, among others taught by Robert Sund (Sweden) and Timothy Brown (United Kingdom) for choral conducting, and by Heinz Kratochwil (Austria) for composition. He is the choir conductor/ instructor at Lemmens Institute, Chapel Master of the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula in Brussels, choir conductor and artistic manager of EUROCHOR (AGEC), conductor of the Capella di Voce in Louvain and, (invited) conductor of the Flemish Radio Choir. He was the conductor of the Flemish Opera Choir from 2002 until 2008. He is an active member of the EMJ in Neerpelt, of Europa Cantat (Music Consultant) and of Koor en Stem (the department of composition). As a composer, through his personal experimentation based on tradition, Kurt Bikkembergs makes continuous efforts towards a renewal in vocal music, particularly in religious music.
