Information: John was born in 1989 in Hampshire, but spent his early childhood in Kenya and Uganda. In 1999, he moved to Scotland, and in 2005 was awarded a place at St Mary's Specialist Music School in Edinburgh. In 2007, he won the Isobel Dunlop Prize for Composition, judged by James MacMillan. In 2008, he undertook a BA degree in Music at the University of York, focusing on composition (working mainly with Roger Marsh and Thomas Simaku). He is currently studying under Philip Cashian for an MMus in Composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Recent works include Long After I Am Dead… for the Edinburgh Incidental Orchestra and Chorus, PROCESSION for the Meridian Piano Quartet, Estul for Academy Symphonic Wind, Experiment 3 for Christopher Redgate, and a solo 'cello work, Schizophrenic Sketch, for Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade. Upcoming commissions include a choral work for the Blossom Street Singers and a new work for the for The Alba Trio. He describes his music as quirky, full of personality, and humourous
