Information: Alfred Stenger was born in 1948. He studied musicology and philosophy with Theodor Adorno and conducting and composition with Hans-Ulrich Engelmann. In 1977 he obtained a Doctorate of Music and two years later passed the artistic exam in conducting. This led to appearances at several theatres at Braunschweig, Wiesbaden and elsewhere. Since 1992 he has taught conducting and score reading at the College of Music at Karlsruhe and, since 1999, at the College of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main. Known as both a music teacher and author of literary works on music, Alfred Stenger is also an active composer and regards his musical works as being equal to his written publications in importance. He has focused mainly on chamber music and on a particular type of composition which connects traditional religious texts with a spiritual openness of sound. In 2006 the College of Music at Karlsruhe awarded him the title of Professor honoris causa. He is a member of the GEMA (Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte), the German copyright association. www.alfredstenger.de
