The pianist and composer Adolf Schlösser (1830-1913) was born in Darmstadt, Germany, and was son of a composition pupil of Salieri. He toured Europe from 1847-54 and then settled in London, becoming a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music. In the 1860s he was advertising concerts at which he collaborated with musicians of the stature of Vieuxtemps and Piatti. His name was often 'Frenchified' as Adolphe Schloesser. He is best known today for the sacred song "He That Keepeth Israel", but on the evidence of this piece he was a highly polished composer of salon music.
