Viennese conductor, composer, and educationist.
Richard von Perger studied cello and composition privately, then with Johannes Brahms 1880–82 under a state grant. He directed the Rotterdam Conservatory 1890–95, was concert director of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Vienna 1895–1900, and director of the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde (= Vienna Conservatory) 1899–1907, and was thus its last director before it was reconstituted as a state institution, preceding Wilhelm Bopp. Together with Robert Hirschfeld, he wrote a history of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde, published in its centenary year, 1912.
