Jost Meier was born in Solothurn. Following his Matura, he studied composition, conducting and violoncello under the tutelage of Rolf Looser at the conservatory in Berne. After In 1964, Jost Meier became a cellist with the Tonhalleorchester Zürich and the Camerata Bern. From 1968 until 1980 he was the principal conductor of the Bieler Orchestergesellschaft and the musical theatre, changing in 1980 to become the music director of the Theater Basel. He has worked in every important country in Europe as a guest conductor. He has worked as a freelance conductor and composer since 1983. Jost Meier lives in Basel and Arcegno/Tessin. |
