Gerald Lefkoff was born 1930 in Brooklyn New York. He attended the Julliard School of Music where he earned B. S. in viola. His graduate studies were at The Catholic University of America where he earned a M.M. in composition and a Ph.D. in theory. Most of his career has been as university professor teaching theory, composition, electronic music, and viola. He was on the faculty at West Virginia University from 1961 through 1996. His early was as a violist in the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington, D. C., the New Orleans Philharmonic, and the U.S. Marine Corps Band. He now works as an independent composer.
