Bortnyansky, Dmitri (1751-1825)
Composer, conductor and teacher and central figure in Ukrainian music. Studied in Venice, Bologna, Rome and Naples. Worked at court chapel in St. Petersburg from 1779 and in 1796 became Director of the Court Chapel Choir.
