Information: Composer Website:http://www.marksmythe.com/ Mark is a New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based Composer who writes film, concert and media scores. He has a deep understanding of the power of music to support a story and instil a mood in audiences, be they watching a feature film, concert or thirty second trailer. Mark's early years were musically immersive: chorister, pianist, performer in musicals and clarinetist for the Nelson Symphony Orchestra/South Island Youth Orchestra while still a teen. Then rock took hold, and for a decade he was a singer-songwriter, bassist, guitarist and keyboardist in: The Varlets, Slacker (NZ); Geiger, Autofocus and Mute (Australia). Mark also acted during his band era (notably as a Centaur on “Xena, Warrior Princess”). In 2005, Mark reconnected with his classical roots and began an enduring collaboration with the vocal ensemble Baroque Voices, who have now premiered 9 of his 10 choral works (the other being premiered by the LA Studio Singers under Edie Lehmann Boddicker). He has also worked with eminent New Zealand harpist Helen Webby and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. His innovative choral arrangements include settings of songs by Radiohead and Massive Attack. In 2006 Mark was accepted into the Australian Film, Television and Radio School's Grad Dip in Screen Composition program, which ignited his passion for film music. He graduated with Distinction in 2008, and has now scored over 20 films. Mark has been based in LA since 2013.
