Information: Alberto Colla graduated in composition (as a pupil of Carlo Mosso), piano, choral music and choir direction at Alessandria and then specialized in composition with Azio Corghi at the Accademia “G. Petrassi”of Parma and at the Accademia Internazionale “Santa Cecilia” of Rome, obtaining the SIAE scholarship awarded to the finest graduates. The composer of over 80 works, Alberto Colla made his name in Italy in 2001 with his opera Il processo winner of the international competition organized by the Committee for the Verdi Celebrations. He has received commissions from the major music organizations and festivals. A lot of his music have been broadcast on radio and television throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, the USA, Russia and Canada. Colla is particularly committed to the realization of large orchestral works, which have been performed by some of the most prestigious orchestras, as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra of the Mozarteum of Salzburg, Orchestra of Santa Cecilia (Rome), Bayerischen Rundfunks (Munich), Juilliard Symphony (New York), Orchestra and Chorus of the Arena di Verona, Orchestra of Colours (Athens), Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra (Oslo), Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa do TNSC (Lisbon), Orchestre de Nancy, Ulyanovsk and Cheljabinsk State Symphony in Russia. His opera Il processo was staged for the 2002 opera season of Teatro alla Scala, Milan and “I Teatri” of Reggio Emilia. A new production, with German libretto, was realized in Germany (Spring 2004) at the Opera Housein Kiel. He teaches composition at the Accademia Internazionale “L. Perosi” in Biella where he has created a team dedicated to compositional theory. The first result of these studies is the text Riflessioni Esacordali. His works are published by Casa Ricordi, Sonzogno (Milan) and Universal Wien.
