The pianist Eduard Spacil (1950) graduated from the Prague Academy of Performing Arts (he studied under doc. D. Baloghova). During his studies he was awarded second prize and the prize of the Czech Music Fond at the Smetana Piano Competition in Hradec Kralove, and fourth prize at the competition held by the Czech Ministry of Culture. From 1973–1982 he worked at the Plzen Conservatory. In 1975, he established the ensemble Baroque Jazz Quintet together with the clarinetist J. Hlavac. Spacil has also played in a piano trio; between 1980 and 1990 he devoted himself intensely to composition and electronic music which he encountered while studying in Gera and Basel. Recently he has again begun to concentrate on chamber and solo concerts. |
