Information: Jerzy Kornowicz, composer, b. 12th August 1959 in Lublin. Studied composition with Tadeusz Baird and Marian Borkowski in the Music Academy in Warsaw and with Louis Andriessen in the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. He received grants from the Dutch government, the Polish Foundation of Culture and the British Council. Performances of his works have been given at festivals in Poland (including the “Warsaw Autumn”, Warsaw Music Encounters, the “Musica Polonica Nova” festival in Wroc?aw) and abroad (at the International Courses of New Music in Darmstadt), the ISCM World Music Days in Zurich, festivals in Odense (Denmark), Middelburg (The Netherlands), New York and Tokyo, as well as presented in concert in Paris, Arnhem, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Philadelphia. His works have been commissioned by festivals, institutions and eminent performers from Poland and other countries, among others: by the “Warsaw Autumn” (Interwoven Figures for orchestra, 1998-99, recommended by the UNESCO International Composers’ Rostrum in Amsterdam in 2000), by the Polish Radio (e.g. The Shapes of the Elements for harpsichord and tape, 2000, whose performance by El?bieta Chojnacka at the “Warsaw Autumn” 2000 festival earned the “Orpheus” Award of Polish critics for the best performance of a Polish work), BBC Radio (Waiting for mixed choir, 2000). His second BBC record with Charms sung by BBC Singers was released recently. The composition was premiered during the “Warsaw Autumn” 2001 festival. He has co-operated with graphic animation artists, such as Tadeusz Wierzbicki, founder of the Laboratory of Phenomena.
