Information: Flautist and composer. Eugène Walckiers studied flute under Jean-Louis Tulou and composition under Anton Reicha. He was a friend and coworker with three other prolific flautists in Paris, Francesco Brossa, Johannes Donjon and Paul Taffanel but although he was considerably older and more experienced than those three, there doesn't seem to be any indication he was their teacher. A 19th century notice about Walckiers says: "It does not appear that he ever aquired great distinction as a flute players, though as a composer of chamber music for the flute his memory will long be revered by all true lovers of the instrument." He wrote a large number of works for the flute, including a series of quartets for himself, Brossa, Donjon and Taffanel. (from: Musica Viva Encyclopedia
