Information: Born in 1976, Brad Gill was educated at the Sydney Conservatorium, University of Western Australia and Sydney University (where he also undertook studies in the Department of Studies in Religion). During this time he was the recipient of a number of awards including the Sydney University Medal and a University Postgraduate Award. Gill’s musical background is varied, and includes a period of study of the tabla, involvement as a percussionist with a number of community musical groups, a jazz vibraphone background and conducting experience. He has written for, and had works performed by, a variety of ensembles and performers, including members of Elision, the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Australian Piano Quartet, pianists Roxanne Della-Bosca, Michael Kieran-Harvey and Kerry Yong and the ensemble Charisma. He has also written for children, co-composing the children’s musical The Rise and Decline of Agrippa von Nettesheim. Gill has taught composition and related subjects at institutions including the Sydney Conservatorium, Australian International Conservatorium of Music and Newcastle University. He currently lectures in composition, analysis and performance related subjects at the Sydney Conservatorium, and has been involved in projects with long term unemployed people in his local area.
