Information: David Schneider is a native of Southern California. He earned Doctor of Music and Master of Music degrees in composition at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music as well as a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. He has studied composition with many teachers, including Sven-David Sandström, Don Freund, P.Q. Phan, Richard Wernick, Claude Baker, Donald Crockett, Frank Ticheli, Stephen Hartke, and Miguel del Águila. Schneider's works have been performed by a number of professional and collegiate ensembles, including the Minnesota Orchestra, New West Symphony, Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, Entheon Quartet, Indiana University's Concert Orchestra and Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, and Cambridge Madrigal Singers. His music has received performances at the Midwest Composers' Symposium, the Brevard Music Center, the American Harp Society Summer Institute, and the University of Cincinnati's Music06 Festival. Listeners may also have heard his music broadcast on KMZT FM, Los Angeles and Minnesota Public Radio. Schneider's music has explored a wide range of styles and has drawn on many sources of inspiration, including most notably Minimalism, Baroque music, and Latin-American dance music. Several of Schneider's vocal works are settings of Classical Latin poetry and use the natural rhythm and meter of the language as points of departure. Other works are directly inspired by visual images, places, or events. Schneider has performed extensively as a singer, conductor, and pianist. He has also taught composition and related subjects at Indiana University, the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky University. Schneider currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he is active as a composer, teacher, singer, and music copyist.
