Information: Bosseur, Jean-Yves (b. February 5, 1947, Paris). French composer of stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, piano, and multimedia works that have been performed throughout Europe; he is also active as a writer. Prof. Bosseur studied composition with Henri Pousseur and Karlheinz Stockhausen at the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne and received his state doctorate in aesthetic philosophy from the Université de Paris. His honors include the Prix de la Fondation Royaumont (1968, for Un arraché de partout), the Gaudeamus Prijs (1968, for Un arraché de partout) and the Diapason d'or (1998, for the Mandala recording of Messe). As a writer, he has contributed articles and essays to numerous publications. His books include Révolutions Musicales (1986, revised 2000, with Dominique Bosseur; Minerve), Le paradigme musical d'Albert Ayme (1986, Traversière), Musique, passion d'artistes (1986, Skira), John Cage (1993, Minerve), and Vocabulaire de la musique contemporaine (1996, Minerve). Ensembles and orchestras such as Accroche-Note, the Belgian Radio and Television Orchestra, the ensemble 2e2m, Ensemble Aleph, Ensemble Clément Janequin, Ensemble Musique Nouvelle, and Ensemble Musique Vivante have played his music. The Erwartung Ensemble, the Five Centuries Ensemble, the ensemble Itinéraire, the Octuor de France, A sei voci, the ensemble Solars Vortices, and Stradivaria have also performed his works. He is currently research director at the Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg and Professeur de Composition at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux.
